The Creative Way: How to embrace your creative gift to enhance your life
The creative way: how to embrace your creative gift to enhance your life.
Inside: Creativity is part of our nature, but many adults have lost the ability to invest in their gift. Check out this new blog series all about embracing YOUR creativity and enhancing your life!
Do you consider yourself creative? Did you when you were younger?
Unfortunately too many of us seem to lose our creativity as adults, or at the least, we lose our confidence in our creativity.
Ask any five year old if they’re an artist and you’ll hear a resounding “YES!”
Ask most adults and you’ll probably get a lot of hemming and hawing, as they consider whether or not it’s “safe” to claim that ‘yes,’ they indeed are artists.
They might even ask, “What exactly do you mean by artist?” Eyes narrowed with suspicion, as if you’re trying to trick them.
Perhaps it’s all. the. things. on our plates that require us to be super responsible and take up so much of our time and energy that we only view creative endeavors as pure luxury.
Or maybe it was a hurtful comment from a teacher, parent, or friend that cut deep and created emotional scars that disfigured our creative natures.
For some of us, it’s because we’ve lost the ability to be ‘ok’ with being a beginner.
Because let’s face it, every new project we undertake, whether that be writing a novel, painting a landscape, or even starting a business, will require us to be beginners again.
And then sometimes we’ve just forgotten how to let go and have some fun. I mean, who has time for that, right? 😉
Well I am ready to move past that old, worn-out mindset that keeps me playing small, and buries my desire to explore and expand my creative abilities.
How about you?
In addition to the pure fun of it all, living a creative lifestyle is known to be great for our health. It brings breakthroughs in clarity and life purpose, and often empowers people to make great improvements in their mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.
As a wellness professional, that excites me!
What inspired me to do this series you may wonder?
I recently heard an influencer quote a well known book that had piqued my interest years ago. You might recognize the name of the book as it’s been a best-seller for years, and the go-to resource for many developing artists. I know it’s helped many people open their minds and hearts to their creative gifts, which is fantastic.
I only stayed away from it because I questioned the philosophy of the author. Honestly, it felt a bit new-agey to me.
As a Christian I want to be careful what I feed my mind, and with only so many hours in a day I couldn’t justify devoting time to something that may go against my deepest beliefs of WHO is actually behind our creativity.
You see, I believe creativity is part of our nature, given to us by the Creator God who fashioned us in His image.
It’s a gift we all carry inside, and it’s one of the ways we can emulate our Father God, who displayed such tremendous artistic originality when He created the world and everything in it some 6000 years ago.
Plus, timing is everything and I knew this could be the perfect time to explore my gift, as I’m taking an enthusiastic leap into writing fiction again. Thanks to my loving, supportive husband ❤️
He encouraged me to write the novel that first moved me forward in my writing career 10 years ago. Thank you, Rick!
I’m also getting ready to move into the illustration phase for my first children’s book, so it made sense to go deep with the topic now, BUT with the intent to bring what I learn under the umbrella of God’s Truth in the Bible.
So I bought the book, and I’m excited to jump boldly into this new journey of discovery.
I hope you’ll join me!
I’ll be posting regularly on the topic and I’m beyond excited to share with you what I learn about living a creative life that enhances our wellbeing. I may even have some super fun exercises for you to do right along with me… 😉
